My training is in drawing, painting and sculpture. My early work in the Photo-realist style and my grasp of anatomy and natural forms help me to create a muscular image. I like to mix this with a nod to the surreal by skewing and distorting the perspective or colliding bright contrasting colors to push the boundaries. I attempt to combine elements of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, illuminating the collision of architectural and natural forms. With my training in painting and sculpture, I have recently innovated a new technique of sculpting pure color directly in 2-D relief. Using multi-layers of full panels of 200 lb. color cardstock, I carve away pieces to reveal the colors below, thus revealing the full image using 5 to 15 layers, depending on the complexity of the image. I work to create art that is new, fresh and irreplaceable.
